On 31 May 2026, Team Christie took on the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run to raise vital funds for The Christie Charity after close friend and family man Kev’s ongoing cancer journey highlighted the incredible work carried out by the hospital and its staff every single day.

Kev was initially diagnosed with tongue cancer in July 2024 and underwent an intense course of treatment including 35 rounds of radiotherapy and 6 rounds of chemotherapy. The treatment was successful in clearing the cancer initially.

Sadly, the cancer later spread to his liver, leading Kev onto a series of specialist treatment trials and immunotherapy options. In January 2026, another immunotherapy trial sadly proved unsuccessful, and he is currently receiving treatment through a further trial drug that has not yet been approved by the NHS. While the treatment has shown promise, it has also brought difficult side effects and uncertainty.

Throughout everything, Kev and his family have built an incredible relationship with the team at The Christie.

“Everyone knows each other on a first-name basis. The support has been unbelievable,” Kev said.

As one of the largest and most respected cancer centres in Europe, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist treatment, pioneering research, and access to clinical trials that are simply not available in many other places across the UK.

The Christie Charity plays a huge role in making that possible. Donations help fund enhanced services beyond NHS funding, including research projects, complementary therapies, patient wellbeing support, specialist equipment, travel assistance for patients on trials, and major developments such as new scanning technology and cancer research facilities.

For Kev, that support has become personal. The Christie Charity has helped support travel and food costs linked to his treatment trials, easing some of the burden during an incredibly difficult period for him and his family.

Now, friends, family and claim.co.uk are coming together with one goal - to raise £5,000 through the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run in support of The Christie Charity and the life-changing work it carries out every day.
